Would it Please You If…

Clutched tightly against
a set of precious words,
the girl wondered if,
she’d ever find
that perfect place.
Most days
her companion sat at her side
always so grateful
for the love.
More than a pet
her devoted friend
placed 12 1/2 years ago
the girl did not plan on
losing her today.
A friend,
but much more than that,
taken without warning
grief’s heavy hand
now in the girl’s grasp.
Down on broken knees to palms
she’s struggles to fill the void
those hungry eyes
no longer waiting
to lay closely by.
The girl’s quiet confidence
is a little shaken
for now though
the girl will stay
tucked in the garden.
Keeping grief at bay
told to wait over there
on the edge
of release
would it please you if,
I waited with you.
We could sit
by the wisteria
or scented gardenia
anywhere to confuse
our senses.
We could whisper secrets
about some ancient contract.
I truly don’t mind
keeping time with you
perhaps you could tell Me
more about her,
your friend
who loved
without conditions.

    1. I lost a dog to a sudden illness and it is awful. I saw you’d lost your dog and I thought of Daisy!

      1. It feels like a piece of me has been ripped away, she was truly part of me and i just can’t shake the empty feeling she left. Frankly, i don’t think i want to. *sigh* That’s the thing about dogs though, isn’t it? They always leave too soon!

      2. I made this cut out in the yard where dogs are allowed to do whatever they want I have water and treats. I replaced Daisy w a Massive German Shepherd to fill the void—

i’ve lost 3 Rottweilers and a German Shepherd – it never seems to get any easier, but this one was even more connected to my soul. 😑
