The clutching temptation
softly plays
and from way over here
I can clearly feel
my mouth super close
still whispering
a lover’s tale.
Late night,
the music struggled
to cover the room
words are barely spoken
the ancient contract
has been signed
and agreed upon
centuries ago.
My eyes,
they refuse to let go
struggling to keep you dressed
minutes dissolve
in a precious liquid
the pretty hours
work against my memory.
It’s never been
hard to imagine
just how easy
tomorrow could get
started.
For a while now
I’ve begun repeating
your name again,
I push it away
the harder I deny it
the stronger the pressure
devours.
Bring on the storm
I’ve fought and won
bigger battles.
The only difference now
I’m starting damaged
the last time
we were close
it was exactly how
I’d always imagined.
The girl,
and her flawed charms
being adored
by a man with taken eyes.
Hands touch and explore
across each curve
I pressed harder
careful to leave a mark.
She’s mine.
Amanda Bell
I’ve not forgotten
your birth year
each year
I say a special prayer
down on broken knees
to palms.
