Wash Away

I wanted you to be

the one who wouldn’t mind

me taking time

and using it

in a different way.

Honestly,

I swear we swore

I’d always use my size

to keep us all smothered.

Instead,

you washed everything away

in the flash of an instant,

my mind turned from yours,

I can no longer hear your voice

in the cold silence of this summer,

we should be lovers,

with our sun-kissed shoulders.

You sent two stupid texts

seriously, you don’t understand

just how far you flushed things.

Go out in the shark-infested waters

covered in blood

and read the words

you so loosely

let slip.

Go away

and leave me

alone in this quiet.
